As the year came to a close, everyone anticipated that the most significant clash would unfold during the festive Christmas season. Shahrukh Khan’s third film of the year, titled ‘Dunki,’ hit the screens on December 21. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the movie managed to rake in an impressive 30 crores at the Indian box office.

Meanwhile, Prabhas unleashed ‘Salar: Part One – Seizure’ just a day later, marking his final cinematic offering for the year. The intriguing twist was that ‘Saalar’ outshone its competitors on the very first day, triumphing over the year’s other major releases.

Initially, the creators of ‘Saalar’ had strategically postponed its release to dodge a clash with Shahrukh’s earlier film, ‘Jawan.’ However, destiny had a different plan as Prabhas found himself going head-to-head with ‘Dunki’ after surpassing ‘Jawan.’

Rumors surfaced just days before the release, suggesting that ‘Dunki’ received more prominence than ‘Saalar’ in terms of screening at several multiplexes in the South. Furthermore, Prabhas faced a reduction in the number of showings due to the preference given to Shahrukh’s film. This led to a complaint from the ‘Saalar’ producers, creating a buzz in the industry.

However, Prabhas had the last laugh as ‘Saalar’ amassed a staggering 95 crores on its opening day. The majority of this revenue hailed from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, contributing a substantial 70 crores. Karnataka chipped in with 12 crores, and Kerala added 5 crores to the film’s impressive first-day earnings.

In terms of overall business for the year, ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Pathan’ secured the top positions, with ‘Animal’ closely following. ‘Tiger 3,’ ‘Gadar 2,’ ‘Adipurush’ trailed behind in the rankings. Notably, ‘Jawaan’ led the pack with a first-day earning of 65 crores, while ‘Animal’ secured the second spot with 60 crores.

‘Pathan’ claimed the third position with 57 crores. However, ‘Salar‘ emerged as the unexpected champion, surpassing all contenders and reclaiming Prabhas’ status as a box office powerhouse. After facing setbacks with ‘Saaho’ and ‘Radhe Shyam,’ ‘Adipurush’ marked another success for Prabhas in the same year. ‘Salar’ proved to be his trump card, ensuring that Prabhas concluded the year on a triumphant note, saving his fading star power.
